Civil Rights Movement
During the Civil Rights movement there were many acts that caused the change wanted to come about. The main driving force that put the issue center stage was activism by regular people. An early example of this was the Greensboro Sit-in. The sit-in was started by four students who were black. They sat at the Woolworth lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina. They simply sat at the lunch counter where they were denied service, however, they refused to leave. This protest had a profound effect on the store and the country. As a result of this specific protest all Woolworth's desegregated their lunch counters.
In Doris is Coming Doris participates in her own sit-in that is unsuccessful. The reason being is that she does the sit-in alone and she does not stay long. This does not mean peaceful protest failed. With time and people the sit-ins else where were successful. Doris did not realize that it takes a majority to make a change.
